Business Analyst CV: from requirements to outcomes

A business analyst's CV should show the full arc: the problem, the analysis, what changed, and the result. Domain knowledge — payments, insurance, regulation — is often what separates candidates.

What recruiters look for

  • Requirements work — elicitation, documentation, and who you worked with
  • The domain you know and the systems you analysed
  • Tools: process modelling, data analysis, backlog and documentation tools
  • Evidence that your analysis changed a decision or a system

Turning duties into evidence

Terms to use — where they are true of you

Tracking systems and recruiters scan for the job ad’s own words. Use the exact phrasing from the ad you are applying to; these are common for business analyst roles.

Common mistakes

  • Listing artefacts without saying what they led to
  • Hiding your domain experience in the job descriptions — surface it in the profile
  • Generic "excellent communication skills" instead of an example of it

For Irish applications

  • Financial services roles in Ireland frequently mention Central Bank regulation — if you have worked on regulatory change, name it.
